Trezor Wallet
Complete Beginner's Guide

Trezor is a leading hardware wallet that ensures the security of your cryptocurrency and digital assets. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the setup process, security best practices, and how to manage your crypto safely.

12 Steps to Complete Setup
Step 1

Unbox and Inspect Your Device

Inside the Trezor package, you should find the hardware device, USB cable, recovery cards, and quick-start guide. Check for any signs of tampering. Trezor never ships devices with pre-filled recovery seeds. If you notice one, do not proceed.

Step 2

Connect and Choose Setup

Connect your Trezor device to a computer using the USB cable. You will be prompted to either:

  • Create a new wallet: Generates a new recovery seed and PIN
  • Recover existing wallet: Input your recovery seed from a previous Trezor device
Step 3

Set a Strong PIN

Choose a unique PIN that is difficult to guess. Avoid patterns or repeated numbers. This PIN protects your device from unauthorized access. Entering the wrong PIN multiple times will temporarily lock or reset the device.

Step 4

Backup Your Recovery Seed

Trezor generates a 12–24 word recovery seed, which is critical to restore your wallet in case your device is lost, stolen, or damaged.

  • Write the recovery words in order on the provided recovery card
  • Never store digitally or take pictures
  • Keep the seed offline in a secure location
  • Do not share with anyone under any circumstances
Step 5

Install Trezor Suite

Trezor Suite is the official desktop and web application used to manage your device. Only download from the official Trezor website. Trezor Suite allows you to:

  • Install cryptocurrency apps
  • Check balances and portfolio
  • Send and receive crypto securely
Step 6

Connect Device to Trezor Suite

Open Trezor Suite, connect your device, and enter your PIN. Trezor Suite will verify the authenticity of the device and guide you through setup.

Step 7

Install Cryptocurrency Apps

Depending on the cryptocurrencies you plan to use, install the corresponding apps on your Trezor device via Trezor Suite. Only install necessary apps to maintain device performance.

Step 8

Add Accounts

Once apps are installed, you can add accounts in Trezor Suite. Click "Add Account," select the cryptocurrency, connect your device, and approve. Accounts will appear in your dashboard for easy management.

Step 9

Receive Cryptocurrency

Click "Receive" in Trezor Suite and select the account. Verify the address on the Trezor device before sharing it to safely receive funds.

Step 10

Send Cryptocurrency

To send crypto, click "Send," input recipient address and amount, and confirm the transaction on your Trezor device. Always verify the details to prevent errors or loss.

Step 11

Update Firmware Regularly

Trezor firmware updates enhance security and provide new features. Update only through Trezor Suite to prevent risks of malicious firmware.

Step 12

Best Long-Term Security Practices

  • Keep recovery seed offline in a secure location
  • Verify all transaction addresses on your Trezor before sending
  • Be cautious of phishing and malicious links
  • Keep Trezor Suite and firmware up-to-date
